Hello again...
 (Canada)
Well it certainly has been a long time since I have been around here.  With so much going on, I haven't really had time to really sit in front of the computer for more than a few minutes.  I figured I would stop in and say hello to everyone and crunch a few WUs while I was at it.  Unfortunately the majority of my aging computer farm has seen better days and I now have three empty cases and another computer that is just about to take it's last breath.  I hope to update my empty cases, but with two little ones Dylan 2 1/2 and Jessica 9 1/2 months,  I have more ways of spending my weekly pay.

Hello and Happy Birthday!

My pay is spent before I get it. I was lucky to be able to update my most recent computer, partially thanks to the help of a friend.

Glad to hear the update, Sheesh. I guess the next 20 years will be devoted to your children, as it should be. I remember back when you were living with the rents, man, we've been around for a while!

I just put some fairly recent hardware out of service, and went with all quads, I'll be happy to send you some parts to fill up the empty cases. Would much rather have them crunching for the team rather than sell them off, so PM me and we can get something worked out.

Thanks Ron.  I had a wonderful birthday.

I thought about coming back sooner but with everything going on, I just didn't have time to switch anything over.  I also did an extensive amount of home renovation so that took a considerable amount of time as well.

Good to hear from you as well Paul.  It has been a while.  I still think of the recruiting days for the great Seti races.  I sent you a PM as well.

It's good to be back posting and crunching with all of you once again.

Re: Hello again...

I have been at it for over two years and still not finished.  I have a new roof,  old knob and tube replaced with Romax wiring, replaced all 1/2" galvanized was replaced with 1" copper on the main line and 3/4" for the rest, as well as a new water supply line to the house and new sewer line from the house.  All new windows (21 of them) had a patio door cut and installed in my diningroom wall, new floors in livingroom, diningroom, and hallway, new furnace/central air, all asbestos removed, house repointed, old wooden support posts cut out and replaced with concrete and steel, insulation in walls and attic as well as a new concrete window sill to replace an old cracked one.

I still have the kitchen, bathroom overhaul and all painting and trim work to complete.  Then I am done.  Should only take a couple more years.  Oh, and I want to put another bedroom and bathroom in the basement as well, so I guess another year or so on top of the first two or so years.

I'll let you know when I am all finished though.

Re: Hello again...

OK, your house is definitely much older than mine. Not to mention I only have 4 windows, not counting the 3 in the basement. We put in garden doors to the backyard last year in place of a leaking window.

After the bathroom is done (light, medicine cabinet, sink and vanity counter replaced already, painting is basically what remains) we still have much on the multi-year to-do list. Livingroom, hallway and 2 of 3 bedrooms are in bad need of paint, bedroom windows could stand to be replaced, carpeting would like to be hardwood or laminate, range hood needs to be vented, bathroom fan I'd like to replace and vent out the gable instead through the roof as it is now, and then there's the basement - like to but in a 3 piece bath and some years down the road completely redo the recroom.

I have to pay attention to the pool preferably later this year or early next as well. Liner is due for replacement, one return line has a leak and is capped off but will have to be repaired at the same time, need to think about redoing the coping and that would mean redoing the concrete deck.....

The fun never ends!

Man, you guys are lucky...  I can't wait to own.  Hopefully in the next 2-3 yrs...  I love home improvement projects.

Re: Hello again...

This house is about 80-90 years old.  I don't have the deed so I am not too sure.  It was my parent's house and I took it over when my father passed away and my mother moved to Thunder Bay.  All the updates were much needed and I have spent about $60,000 on it so far.  I figure another $50,000-$60,000 and I will be done.  I am going to make an error margin of $25,000 for other things that may surface, but I think I got the major stuff done.  It would be much more if I didn't do as much as I did myself though.

I knew working for that contractor for three years would pay off.  I picked up quite a bit more from the professionals during my employment with them.
