The "Camelot One is moving" thread
(N/A) Modified By Camelot One on 10/27/2008 12:08:47 PM)

This has probably been the most difficult move I have every had to plan, mostly due to Becky's work. We didn't find out until Friday where she would be working, so we've been looking at houses across a 200 mile area, with only 2 day trips to view them in person. (and let me tell you, not one of them looked anything like the pictures posted online)

But it looks like things have finally fallen into place. We are headed to Punta Gorda. (wasn't my first or even 3rd choice, but they offered Becky one hell of a pay bump to go there, plus a 3 day a week work schedule) It's just outside the Fios network, so I'll be stuck on Comcrap at home. But I have Fios at the office, my own dedicated 20/20 in fact, so I should be ok. The house is less than a mile from Becky's store, and 5 minutes from the marina. Our current house closes on November 17th, so we should be in FL by the 19th or 20th.

The forum refuses to let me post pics today, so here is the photobucket album on the new house:

Man, I like that house.  I've made a lot of moves in m life and none of them were any fun.  I hope yours goes good.  Keep us informed on how it goes...

Nice house to live!
What about the law? From my point of view looks better than Texas, isn't it?

Brazil, not Uruguay!!!

I am looking forward to moving to a state that abides by the US Constitution. :)

Nice house!  Are you getting it with that nice furniture, or is that the current owner's or realtor's?

Good luck!  I've warned all my friends and relatives in FL that you're coming -- you should have heard the ching-changs as they locked and loaded.

Thats the "show" furniture. We have more stuff than we know what to do with, certainly no reason to pay the "fully furnished" prices.

Some of you know about last weeks drama......for the rest of you, here is the update.

The house is/was handled by a management company. They took our application, approved it, took our deposit and rent, everything set to go. Utilities setup, move lined up, etc. It wasn't until last week that we learned they hadn't bothered to talk to the owner, and when they did, our move in was cancelled. The initial excuse was that they didn't want to take pets (despite having charged us double the pet deposit) In the end I learned the truth was that the house is already in forclosure. So with the closing on our current house set for next Monday, and having no where to go, we had a major last minute change of plans.

We are now moving to Sarasota. It's where we wanted to be all along, but things just hadn't worked out right. But the house mess pushed us to try harder. We found a great house in Sarasota, and Becky landed an even better job there. This house is owned free and clear, and I'm dealing with the owner directly. Hopefully there won't be any further issues.

As a bonus, it's in the Fios area. By this time next week I'll be sitting on a 20x20 connection.....for less than I'm paying for DSL.

That's a nice house also.  I'm glad everything worked out for you.  At least you didn't move in and a few weeks later have to move again.  I always feel that things like that happen for a reason.

I didn't know about the drama, but I'm sure glad things worked out for the better due to that!

What's the little panel in the entry way? Also, it looks like there is a big enough gap under the door for the roaches to just walk on in.

Damn! Good eye! Up here in the great white north we plug every gap we can, not for the bugs but for the cold.

The metal threshold plate was messed up during the previous tennant's move out. The owner had it fixed by the time we arrived.

All in all the move went pretty well. We ended up having to rent a trailer to pull behind Becky's truck, after filling the 26' truck. I think it's going to take me a month to unpack, but the essentials are up and running.

3 years and we're pretty much unpacked now, but not quite.
