Old project, new team  (United States)

Team Starfire World BOINC for RC5-72

Old tech, not BOINC, and a semi-orphaned project. Can you say underdog?

OTOH, it doesn't get Berked and lightly loaded queues like many BOINC-based projects these days.

Hmmm, it's been so long since I played with Distributed.net that I forget!

Download the appropriate client and installer method (Windows version dependent: .exe or Windows installer). http://www.distributed.net/download/clients.php

Check out the Faq-O-Matic for RC5-72 http://faq.distributed.net/cache/270.html

While observing that, run the client to configure: dnetc -config

  • Your email address.  This is not pre-registered; you'll be registered when your client returns results and they're tallied after midnight UTC every day.  Sometimes the stats don't show up until around 0100 UTC.

You'll probably want to run it as a service: dnetc -install

You may want to create a scheduled task to force a buffer flush shortly before midnight UTC.  I run mine at 2345 UTC.  The command is

   dnetc -flush

and you'll need to wrap whatever directory navigation is necessary around that.  Put it in a .bat file (duh) that's run as a scheduled task.

Once you've returned results, you can join the team via the link in the first post of this thread.  Any results not previously committed to a team will be attributed to this team (when I founded it, I brought over 13 days' worth of work on my first day).

Optionally, you may want to run a personal proxy server, but it's totally unnecessary except for nerds, geeks, dweebs and martyrs. [EMO]Cool Gallery/cool-smiley-008.gif[/EMO]

BOINC is easier to run? Port it to BOINC!

I think I have to call distributed.net the premier of cli dc.  A bit difficult if you're used to GUI, but for us old dogs who did IT on Noah's Ark, it's a feature-rich, robust piece of work.  And comes with a personal proxy server, too, for gluttons for punishment.

I still don't understand how I'm suppose to get the user id and password. Are they going to be emailed to me or what ?

I have returned 2 WUs this far !

About anything you could want to ever know is in the FAQ; if you don't find it, the FAQ has the email address for their help folk.

Ok, this is my bad (for a bit anyways) it seems like I've only been crunching OGR-P2 WUs.
Obviously you have to set the client to OGR-P2=0   in
"9) Load-work precedence ==> OGR-P2=0,RC5-72"

Well, you can blame it on that I'm mainly a GUI user,
though I know the  most CMD lines to use by all means if needed

How ever I managed to join the team now with the OGR units and should turn up there tomorrow after the page update!
