Got the e6300 and Abit AB9 in Monday, it's on the kitchen table runing as we speak.
Had several problems needed ironing out, some on my end, some the board's. It came with bios 10, and the e6300 would'nt POST. Bios 11 showed it fixed mem compatibility, and solved POST problems with some Conroes. So I had to drop in a 630, flash to bios 11, reinstall the Conroe. Next, since the 965 dropped support for IDE drives, there's a JMicron SATA RAID chip that provides support for it. If you want to install OS from SATA 8,9 or IDE, you'll need to load the driver when installing OS.
Other than that, I jumped straight to 2500mhz, stock vcore, early yesterday morning and let it crunch till I got home. Since the E6300 has such a low multi, you really need some memory that will scale high, just running 1:1. The several pairs of memory I have laying around ran out of gas early, like 380 fsb 4,4,4,10 timings. Tried loosening to 5,5,5,14, still no joy. These were pairs I picked up for dirt cheap in the FS forum, 2x256 ballistix, 2x512 PQI 4300 turbo, and 2X512 PQI turbo 5400, so wasn't expecting too much out of them.... I'll see if I can swap some better memory out today.
Currently running 375mhz, 1:1, stock vcore, temps reporting 42C using a Thermalright MST-9775 90MM hsf. Seti times are looking real good, big drop over the D's.

Now if only Berkeley would cooperate so I can view the results...
Are you going to try and pick up some 1066 mem?

Any updates on the tweaking? A non scientific comparison between those times and my Pent D makes that conroe about 26% faster.
920 D, 276 FSB(3.87 ghz), stock vcore, ram at 2:3 (417) timings: 4,3,3,12

No updates. I've been bring in some boards that needed tweaking, while the wife's been gone. Took over the kitchen table.... Really I need to either get some more ram, or figure out which rig doesn't need the 2X512 ballistix, so I'll have some more headroom.

sounds good, man! I know I asked you before, but I'll ask again, for the benefit of others interested. What memory would work well, i.e. scale pretty high, for these Conroe's? I've yet to try running this e6300 async, since the multi is so low, I'd need at least ddr1000 . My main fault is I never pay the big bucks for high rated ram, since the farm is so big, I buy used most of the time, or some type of sale/deal. I do have a pair of ballistix that are running 430 4.4.4.10 timings. May just order something similar again, with the micon chips...

corsair's UL series is doing very well with Conroe.
Another is OCZ PC8000 Plat XTC, but this stuff is expensive.
best overclocking ram is based on Micron D9 chips. but these need over 2.2V Vdimm to overclock well.

That PC5400UL is good ram. a lot of people have been having good luck with it..
The E6400, Newegg now has in stock. But I got one cheaper at Fry's [EMO]wink.gif[/EMO]

Well on further thinking, I just decided to go with 2 pairs of OCZ PC5400 XTC, just couldn't bring myself to spend the big bucks for really fast ram. Gotta spread the wealth around the farm... Glad you got your hands on an E6400, will be looking forward to some results. My AB9 & E6300 started locking, after running well for a week . I backed it off to 2590, 370 fsb, and it still is locking up. Thought it was a bit early for a little more vcore, but tried a little bunmb, no help. Since it's running 370 FSB, I thought to give it a little more V to the MCH. I'll see how it works out overnight....Wonder if the 965/975 will be like the 865/875 chipsets, where they are the same, but speed binned, and I'm hitting a wall with the chipset?

No joy over night, it's crashed with an extra bump first to the MCH, then to the southbridge. Backed it down to 360 FSB....

well, got some new OCZ memory in, the cheaper stuff. It doesn't do any better than the ballistix ram I have in it. But I did catch what was causing it to crash, it was the memory. Strange, when I first ran it up, it passed 2 complete loops in memtest86 1.65 at 375fsb. Now I'm getting errors at anything over 360. I'll have to try that last bit of vmem and go to 2.3V, but I'll need some active cooling on the modules... Probably try a bit of memtest conditioning, see if any of the modules resond to a little "massaging"

glad you found what is causing it. I do know there are some Bios problems with the AB9 with Conroe. But this Motherboard is showing some Fantastic overclocks with Pentium D's.

You referring to your Asus board? Ya'll having any good Conroe disscussions at BE? With all the crap going down here lately, haven't found time to go elsewhere. Also haven't had time to set back and put some time in the AB9/E6300 yet, either.... Well don't you know as soon as I'm convinced it's one thing, I get the feel that it's something else. I'm more inclined to think this bios is pretty rough, and/or I'm hitting some chipset ceiling. I need to setup a test rig to check all this memory on another board. I don't think all 3 of these sets have about the same low ceiling..... edit Sun. morning- after some browsing of XS, BE and Abit forums, I see now, most are having the same problem, and are waiting for the next beta bios, hopefully getting us some more headroom. actually, The AB9 is the one I was talking about. it has a Rock solid Vcore regulator, much more stable than Asus which the Pentium D's love.
I finally had some time to play with my E6400 and all I could say was HOLY SMOKES!
was able to get mine to 425FSb (3.4Ghz) at 1.45V Vcore but the motherboard gave out (using the Intel X975XBX Rev 3.04) any higher than this.
