Conroe loveliness at last
 (N/A)
Well, I finally made the move to a conroe, got myself a 6300 to start my intel OC adventures, mainly after hearing much praise by Paul and co.

I am impressed with the way these things clock to say the least.

Running a 6300 on a Gigabyte DS3 with 2*512MB of the Ballistix.

I think I have hit a heat wall now though, so for now, I'm stuck with the result you can see here: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=155566

I think I'm going to have to invest in some proper cooling soon, and see what this baby can actually achieve.

Looks like a nice OC so far, I wish i could get my woodcrest to clock that high!

What are you using for cooling right now and what are your temps?

Re: Conroe loveliness at last

I'm currently using one of these as my CPU cooler, and northbridge cooler etc are just the stock ones that come with the board, so my next step is to upgrade the CPU cooler, and beef up the northbridge cooling.

I can go further than the overclock I currently have, but it then gets unstable after 8 hours or so of constant use.

Current temps according to gigabytes monitoring software are averaging at 47°C but Intel Thermal Analysis Tool says 56°C on each core (average), but when running for 8 hours or so at any higher overclock start to rise to 60°C+.

As it stands, the system is Pifast/SuperPi stable, Seti stable and is fine for gaming (6 hour session of WoW last night and no issues); so I think with a bit of a boost to the cooling, it's got a lot more in it yet.

I deally I would love to see a 100% overclock, maybe it will actually be achievable. CPU is at the voltage the motherboard detected it at, chipset etc are all at stock voltage, just the memory has been given an extra 0.2V so far, that was due to failing on the 3rd pass of a memtest run at this speed, since the volts have been upped, it's been fine.

OK, it's been 4 days, what else have you been able to do with it?

My 63 mounted on a 965P S3 ran well at 470 with ballistix 800, 2.2V 4,4,4,12 timings @ 1/1, let it sit there for a while, then kept losing the hdd for some reason. Kindof a ghosting thing, sometimes you see it, sometimes not. Gary had experienced the same thing with his DS3. I pulled the power, battery, clear cmos and let it set for 3 hours, flashed to the latest bios, seems to have cleared it up for now.

Well, being the WoW addicted type that I am, not a lot yet.

Mind you, I suppose it could also be down to the fact that my new heat sink doesn't arrive until tomorrow.

I didn't place an order for a replacement heatsink until Saturday, having to wait for payday is a pain.

Once my new toys arrive tomorrow, I shall install as soon as possible, give it a day or two to settle in, then see how far it can go.

I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you.

Still its all for the good of the team. MoD hasnt suffered for this either.

I really should pick my new heatsink from your place at some point and see what the replacement for that E6300 can do.

But I still hate you for getting another 400mhz out of that chip than I could.

Oh and update this your new heatsink should make that thing fly.

Argh! The Llama found me... gotta run!!!

Disinformation all the way.

You are forgetting though, that although the new cooler is doing wonders for core temps, I am an absent minded fool at times, and as such I forgot to order a new n/bridge cooler. As you know, this thing is running warm enough to strip off fingerprints if you were to touch the current cooler that is on it, so not much else has been achieved. :(

Hmm, guess I still haven't figured out the insert image thing....

I still hate you none the less.

Time to upgrade my psu and sort out this voltage drop on the replacement cpu. I will beat you. Even if I have to get the Llama to tweak my system when I'm at work.

Baaaaah

You know that the llama gets bits of wool stuck in the fans and just slows your system down due to heat related lock ups.

Well, I've still yet to order a replacement for my n/bridge heatsink (although I'm not worried too much atm, I'm more bothered about getting the new webby up and running than overclocking right now), so you've got a little while to catch up anyhow. Although I suppose I could include one on the order when I get demonspawns birthday pressies ordered.
