Less Forums

For fear of becoming more like BBR's DC area, I'd like to suggest we cut back the number of forums. Perhaps one for general boinc and project discussion, one general chat forum, one forum for optimizing and overclocking/hardware etc.

Does that mean you think we should have more than Free-DC?

I agree with the first thought. Honestly I only look at the aggregated section for the new threads anyway.

Re: Less Forums

I'm use to the forums now.  The only one that get to me is "All Things Crunching"  It seems that project info ends up there instead of the project forum.  It's really no problem though because it's acting like a general forum.  I'm thinking about asking for another forum.  That will come later.

At the very least make all the project forums just one Boinc forum.

I like the separate project forums.  It makes it easier, especially as we grow, for new members to find the info they're looking for.

Keep in mind, we've been active less than 2 months, and we have 318 threads and 3100 posts.  In a year, with growth, I don't even want to think about how many threads and posts we're going to have.  Sure you can search, but it's easier to have the forums organized in such a manner that you can just go to the area you're interested in to make things easier.

And there's always the aggregated view if you don't want to see all those forums on a regular basis.

Re: Less Forums

I originally thought there were too many forums also. With the aggragated list it's easy to see what is fresh, and the multiple forums should make it easier to find specific info when needed. So now I lean towards the current system.

Just as a side note shouldn't this have been put in the feedback forum, then a vote could have been taken and the membership could decide.

Its a handy tool for us to use. ;)

Re: Less Forums

I like it the way it is now, I'm not keen on the agregate view, as there is more stuff that doesn't interest me than does.
The current system allows me to just view areas that are of interest to me, and ignore everything else.

Re: Less Forums

If it weren't for the aggregate view and the list of new threads on the home page, I'd agree with you in a second, Ron. Those features do keep the site manageable, though, so I don't feel a huge need to pare things down.

the aggregate view works great for me also.

But I still don't know why everyone is replying to a 2 month old thread....

Actually, I'm quite used to the way it is now, and yes, I posted that a long time ago. I think a little tweaking to the forum setup may be due soon, but not too much.

The threads have dates? When did this happen?

Everyone else was jumping off the bridge, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Re: Less Forums
 (United States)

There has to be a middle ground as to the number of forums but I do like the way they are set up now.

When I first came here I went thru every one of them. I'm sure others have too.

Alot of info there.

Now I use the aggregated on the front the most to keep up on all the new threads.

By the way, my compliments to those who put this all together. One hell of a job!
