BOINC Recruiting Post  (Canada)
I'd like a little help creating a new recruiting post for the various BOINC boards. Everyone here already knows we have the right group and spirit and that we are the best, but we need to draw new members in that we can grow more.

To that end, what we need is something informative which makes it easy to draw new members to our team stats pages where they can join our teams, and back to here to join the forums and participate in the chat channel.

We need to format the post using the allowable UBB code which BOINC message boards use. We need colour, and easy to follow links. Look at some of BOINC Synergy's posts for examples. We don't need to be that overboard, but catchy would be good.

Re: BOINC Recruiting Post  (United States)

King,

Would you like to incorporate some strategic wording from the team description?  I am asuming that you would like links pointing back to us, plus some other hot spots throughout TSWB?

Introducing Team Starfire World Boinc!
Who are we? We are a newly formed international team of some really long standing distributed computing participants and those new to DC as well.  We have quite a few members that overclock and very open forums moderated by people who want everyone to feel comfortable. You'll find us to be a very friendly lot.  We have an growing IRC server at irc.teamstarfire.net dedicated to BOINC and it's various projects, with the main channel being #team_starfire and more to come.  Team Starfire World BOINC has teams for most BOINC projects and communicating about all BOINC related things is a part of our forums.  Help pages, team stat pages etc. A fine forum for all BOINC projects.  Drop in say hello and hang out whether you join us or not. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

I'd like to break away from that a little perhaps.

One thing to keep in mind is the BB code in use there. It does allow for different text sizes and colours. I really want it to catch the eye of those that read it. It needs easy to see links to our website and to join our team of course on the various projects of course.

Emphasis here needs to be on both the global nature of the team, our live chat (IRC) and full support for all BOINC projects which our members choose to run.

Think: We have picked up some new members since our departure from DSLR. What is the appeal of our team and how do we expand upon that and put it into words to attract new members.

I think, this is the point. If someone joins a team it certeanly has a good reason. Why don't you - I mean old members - ask the new ones why did they join Team Starfire as you did it with me on IRC? Based upon their feedbacks it would be easier to create that catchy ad.

That's exactly what I want to hear.

As I see it -- as an oldtimer -- these are the reasons to join Starfire:

We're friendly and tolerant -- we support each other, and we don't waste a lot of time arguing
Open forum -- we have yet to block a thread
We have an active IRC
We're ambitious -- top of the pops!
We have firepower to back up our ambitions
We encourage multiple projects
We know our stuff -- hardware, overclocking, optimizing clients

I know you want something more solid than this, but these are my immediate thoughts.

Thanks Mike. Maybe I'll work on formatting something today.

Re: BOINC Recruiting Post  (United States)

How about an email once a new member joins with some type of questionair/feedback.  Xaak, can this be done with the current board's features?

As for some of our inactives.  This could also spark interest by creating a generic newsletter type message out to those informing of our progress ambitions and current goals.  There must be reason why we have inactives to begin with, and by reaching out to those indivduals helps keep the wheels in motion.

Included could be stuff like a questionair, FAQ's, how can we help, visit our forum, IRC channel and other news related to TSWB.

While not directly on-topic, I noticed a thread at rosetta advertising the friday night chat. This seems like a good recruiting tool especially since it would ideally be bumped every week as a new friday rolls around.

That's the idea.
