Dear Friend:
I am very pleased to announce that you were selected to take part in a journey that shall continue to reach new heights. You have received this open invitation to become part of 'Team Starfire World Boinc', also known as TSWB. Come, gaze onward to higher plateaus, discover medical breakthroughs, help the world find a cure, or even predict new weather patterns. Come along and explore the stars above at
www.TSWB.org.
In 1999, the idea of Team Starfire was brought together by several successful founding members. Many of these same dedicated members and teammates continue to press onward and upward by contributing their spare CPU cycles toward various projects. Our teammates here at Team Starfire share news, project information, trends and ideas, or even just come by to chat in the forums catching up on local events. We have built this community and welcome you to join us creating the future.
What are Spare CPU Cycles?
Volunteer computing is an arrangement in which people (volunteers) provide computing resources to projects, which use the resources to do distributed computing and/or storage. Volunteers are typically members of the general public who own Internet-connected PCs. Organizations such as schools and businesses may also volunteer the use of their computers. Projects are typically academic (university-based) and do scientific research.
The first volunteer computing project was GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search), which started in 1995. Other early projects include distributed.net, SETI@home, and Folding@home. Today there are at least 50 active projects.
Given this opportunity, TSWB invites you to join our newly appointed and growing member base. Come along and explore the stars.
Come discover Team Starfire
