In the next week or so, I will have around 20 duel proc (Quad Core) servers I can run BOINC on, but only for a few days while I burn them in.  I would like advice on which project has average WUs of a couple hours, and also, I would like to know how to tell the servers to report results as soon as they are done. I think it has to do with a startup switch, but if I am running "As a Service" what is the best way to do that?

I don't want to start a lot of  longer WUs that wouldn't finish.

I know Rosetta WUs are usually shorter, but I think I would like to contribute to a different project.  Keep in mind that I don't want the servers to run out of work, such as what happens on POEM with their per core per day limits.

Thanks,

Drizzt.

I haven't heard any automagic way to update immediately, save for using an optimized BOINC client like Crunch3r's.

That said, if you pick a project for this burnin, go to the project page- "Computing preferences" or whatever that project names it, and set 'Computer is connected to the Internet about every'- 0.1 days and "Maintain enough work for an additional" 1 days (or . 1-.9 to keep the cache low.) That way you'll only keep a small cache, so you let them run out a bit before the burnin is complete, and you have to uninstall BOPNC.

Off the top of my head, on a stock Core2 box, per core, Malaria Control wu's are 1-2 hours, Cosmology 1.5 to 4 hours, ABC 64 bit, about an hour for most, but can go to 4 hours occasionally.

What interests you. math, astrology, medicine?

SIMAP on my Q6600 is about 50 - 60 minutes per WU. When will this happen? If it's in the next week or so, there will be work. Later in January, SIMAP may run out of work.

SIMAP work left:

Was trying to add this to my post above, but kept getting the below error when I hit Update.

An error has occurred.

Am I reading this right? 20 x 8 cores (160 cores)?

Really curious how much credit that can put up in a few days. I'm betting like 100,000 credits.

Things have changed a bit.  10 of the servers are here, but one has already been used (Hot item).  They are Duel proc duel core, not quad. Guess somone went cheap when they purchased.

The other 14 "should" be here any day, and they are quad proc for sure.

All have at least 4 GB of RAM as well.  There are 4 that have 8, and one that has 32.

Nice! How many days do you think you'll be able to use them? I assume this is ok and isn't covert or anything... you never know how people will react to BOINC if they don't expect to see it there on "company resources"...

Did QMC get the work? I see a very nice jump in your stats!

That was four of the servers.  Will be bringing them on a little at a time.  Nothing ever goes the way I expect.
