Edit: Title to reflect what I found out.  See last post.

I noticed a sharp drop in output from Cosmology, and it turns out that in my profile, the "On multiprocessors, use at most" setting got reset to 1, and it looks like some of the others on the team had the same drop, so check your profiles!

Mine was still set to 4, did you upgrade Boinc Manager? Advance tab>preferences allows for changes to cpu usage.

No, haven't touched anything.  Strange thing was it was set on the cosmo website, and all 4 boxes running cosmo did the same thing.  I tend not to set the local preferences as I like to be able to control them from my profiles.  Maybe it was one of the new projects I joined that did it.

Ok, looks like one of the new projects (Cels, 3x+1, or QNC Alpha, not sure which) messed up my boinc preferences.  Work while computer is in use also switched to no, so be careful and check your boinc preferences whenever you join a new project.

Quote fron QCN front page. There is also alot of talk on the QNC boards.

"Please note that this software is best run as a single-processor job, so BOINC global prefs will be set to use 1 CPU, and only run when idle for 3 minutes. QCN is not a project you will want to run (especially in the alpha stage) alongside other BOINC projects"

Heh, that's what I get when I jump on new projects too fast without reading up on the boards .  Well, I'll take my chances running it on a machine with other stuff running.  Still, I didn't expect a project would set preferences so that it would affect all other boinc projects, even on other boxes.  Oh well, live and learn .
