Attn. B52GUNR of the BBR.com SETI@Home Club
 (Canada)
Now, you know and I know I'm unable to post in our former home, so I do hope you manage to read this, and any of our ill informed former teammates do too, but I'm quite upset by what you posted in response to a member question about the split, which you weren't around to witness, nor do I think you have all the facts. To quote your post:

In short, there was a huge rift that found Kinguni feeling the need to dig his own sandbox where he and his friends could play and he lacked the ability to come up with an original name, probably too much diesel fumes or something. I'm greatly over-simplifying but wanted to write something down before this got locked (which it will more than likely be).

We, the members of Team Starfire you see here, rebuilt Team Starfire from the ground up. The team almost fell apart after the transition to BOINC. SETI@Home under BOINC was a new animal, and a lot of people didn't like it. We became a BOINC team and thrived. We embraced BOINC projects other than SETI@Home and started to attract members because of our team and it's members, not just Justin's website. We became successful as a BOINC team. We became successful but didn't have permission from BBR's DC Executive to do so. We tried and tried and tried to work with them but in the end we were given an ultimatum: dismantle what we had built or take it offsite. So, Team Starfire moved offsite and became Team Starfire World BOINC. It's a pity that BBR's SETI@Home club decided to keep the name, but we can live with that. At least Hank and BBR's DCS went through great pains to ensure their BOINC teams all have separate names so that their teams' BOINC stats don't add up.

That said, you weren't oversimplifying things, you were just writing something down, and if you believe what you wrote then it is you that was sniffing diesel fumes, but I'd rather think you just didn't know the truth. More fitting of how I remember you.

To Alnero if you read this, we don't recruit from your team. The only members there that have switched to our team in recent times were members that were out of the loop and then found out the truth of what happened and rejoined us here at Team Starfire.

I second the motion, despite the fact that I doubt the thumb will fit in there alongside his head.

Personally I would have made the thread title to the whole of their team, but I can't actually disagree with anything in your post Kinguni.

I would say that anybody who doesn't know what happened originally should have a good search through the forums here and over there and look for themselves.
There are still a few threads left over there (they overlooked a fair few fortunately so there is still some of what happened archived there, not much after all the locked and deleted threads I admit, but there is some), and  to look at the threads here that contain a fair amount of quoted text and screen caps of pages (providing links to images haven't expired).

Well, it really is just a reply to B52GUNR's post at TSU anyways. He's free to reply here, or to reply there if he wants. I mean, I'm not one to want to rekindle old arguments or anything, but I certainly can't let direct insults and fallacies stand uncontested.

Watch, you two, I'll have to moderate, delete or lock your posts!!! cool.gif

Yeah, it doesn't do any good to post over there, the posts seem be deleted or locked. Although that thread  has been up for a while, I dunno what they're thinking...

And you're right, Ron, that really didn't sound like the B52GNR we all crunched with way back when. He certainly was one of the more active members for quite some time, and dedicated a lot of time to the team.

But to the point, anyone looking for some history on the move of Team Starfire, here's a few links:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16551868

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16603090

More links will be added later as I find them.

I would like to point out that there has been several splits from the DSLR DC and gaming scene over the years, seems like no one left there is willing to give up any info about them. Being in the thick of one such split, I can hazard a guess that whenever they lock and delete posts, they are most assuredly covering up the issue in the hopes that no one else will leave.

I realize that now, and my being out of the loop at BBR for 4 years (I stopped in from time to time in that period, but not often) made me sad that they wouldn't bother to just tell me....

When I said my final goodbye, I was told "we aren't hiding the info, you could have searched for it" but that same person posted in my original thread, and never mentioned it till I was too upset to stay......

Now I'm looking for a team, and few seem worth it, I was thinking of joining FreeBSD, but I've got more credit than anyone in their team.... Seems too easy, I like watching my team rank climb...

The team you started crunching with is right here. However, you need to crunch where your heart is. I'm glad you found your way to our forum regardless of what you decided to do.

The team I've been with for the last 2 years, isn't the team I joined, they seem to have changed in ways that it will likely never recover from.....

I need to do some soul searching before I choose a team, I am however thinking seriously about joining TSWB.....

Well we would be happy to have you with us, but there's no rush.

Regardless of whether you join us or not, don't be a stranger.

Well, glad to hear you joined. We're really a bunch of old time DC people, happily crunching whatever project floats our boat at any particular time. We're big enough and have the experience to solve just about anything DC related, but small enough not to have all the issues that a bigger site would have.

Welcome aboard, if you need anything, just ask, we're all here to help.

Yep, I remember back in the day, when they'd deliver the wus over pony express, and we had to sit there with an abacus...

Aw shoot! that's OOOOLLLDDDDD school! I started back when the WUs would be delivered via "Sneaker-net" on punch-cards, each WU weighed 15lbs and took two giant redwoods to make.... It was a nice day when the TRS80 (aka Trash-80) and 10" floppy disks came out, still had to use sneaker-net, but it cut crunching time by 3 weeks per WU, I remember my best year, I got 7WU finished and started on my 8th.....

Those were the days.....
