For those of you who don't know, World Community Grid is a project that does direct disease research.  They're currently doing 4 projects, which are the Human Proteome Folding (HPF) project,  HPF Phase 2, Fight Aids At Home, and Help Defeat Cancer.  You can chose in your profile which projects you want to crunch, but all of them are for a good cause.

WCG offers two clients, boinc and a dedicated client, and users can chose to use either, and points are combined.

The project's home page is http://wwww.worldcommunitygrid.org and it has much information on what the project does and what it plans to do.

Our team URL is http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=N25RSMBR9N1

If you're looking to crunch a great medical research project, this is a fine project to consider.

I'm not currently running the project, but will again soon. I had  one HPF Phase 2 WU that ended up wasting my computer time though, although maybe they are supposed to take a week on an Athlon XP? I aborted that WU though and detached temporarily to give SETI a bit more share.

Try the Help Defeat Cancer project then.  The wus are reasonably timed, I think.  They're running around the same time on a D as the Seti Enhanced wus, around 2.5 hours.  Not sure what they'll run on an XP though.

I remember why I aborted that one. It was past the deadline already with an estimated 4 days to go.[EMO]Sad Gallery/sad-smiley-033.gif[/EMO]

Breakdown on WCG Projects:

HPF1 (Rosetta) is winding down - no new work units going out, the last few are coming in.

HPF2 (Rosetta) has been moved to beta test (20% of WUs causing machine hang)

FA@H  (AutoDock) is running strong and stable.

HDC (TMA) is running very stable for a new project.  Unlike most DC projects, HDC is running in near real-time with the researchers.  Each new batch of WUs undergoing Tissue Microanalysis is based upon the results returned from previous work units.  For this reason, the batches are smaller, sporadic, and given higher priority than other WCG projects.  This is a good fill-in project, but will waste processing time if selected as your sole project.

All the above is subject to change at any time! :)

Thanks for that great summary, CKizer.  I haven't had time to look much at the boards lately.  Off to adjust my preferences based on that great info.
