First Snow in West Michigan next week?!
The GFS Bufkit is forecasting 7″ of snow for Grand Rapids starting next Thursday evening…YIKES! It’s probably wrong…but…you better enjoy the nice weather this weekend!! UPDATE: Now this from the Extended Outlook from the NWS: “Great Lakes: IT WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR LAKE-EFFECT SNOW SQUALLS THURS. INTO FRI. OVER THE EASTERN GREAT LAKES.” Spread the word…tell your friends…get out the winter coats…enjoy the fall color and get what outdoor work you can get done by next Tuesday evening! The European model gives us our first snowflakes and a 20 mph wind off the lake with temps. in the upper 30s to low 40s. It looks nasty Thurs. and Friday.
Looks like winter a littler early in these parts! :)

Won't that be something! I take long range forecasts with a grain of salt here. One is calling for sub-freezing high temperatures for Winnipeg Thursday and Friday, another for cold overnight lows but daytime highs well above freezing. The two longer range forecasts, Accuweather and Weather.com call for temperatures returning to normal after a couple of cold days next week. I don't even trust the forecast here for tomorrow. Way too many variables.
Edit: I need some warmer weather next weekend to take care of some extra winter proofing of my house, such as replacing some cracked caulking around doors and windows. Might have to put a rush on it and do it on Monday before heading to mom's house for turkey.

havent hit a ditch with my 2 wheel drive over 3 winters hopfully the 4 wheel will help keep me out of the ditch even more!

When we hit the highway up here after snow or freezing rain we never see 2WD cars in the ditch, only 4WD SUVs. Rather amazing if you ask me.

As the owner of a 4WD SUV with minor experience in snow/ice it does not surprise me in the least. The thing goes great, you almost dont realise there is anything on the road. Stopping or turning is an entirely different story though. You build up alot of momentum with the more massive vehicle and it is very hard to get it to do anything other than go in a straight line.
Snow is really fun here too, almost any amount that sticks will cripple transportation. There are no snowplows, sand, or salt ready so we basically have to wait a few days until it melts before travel is normal again.

Here in Stockholm/Sweden/Scandinavia the Autumn just came yesterday. Until yesterday the day temperature had still been over or around 18 C° but yesterday it went down to 17,5 and today it's been as low as 15,5 in the middle of the day. So now the Autumn officially have arrived in my opinion anyways. But it's far from winter and snow, it's will take at least another 2 months before winter will arrive here. But in the beginning of February it can get very cold here, -20C° is not unheard of.

That's not cold! Cold here is -35 with wind chill to make it feel like -50!

That's not cold! Cold here is -35 with wind chill to make it feel like -50! Well, everything is relative. In Northern Sweden there can also get up to -35° but not here really.

I lived in Northern Wisconsin for 35years, where we would see -28C and 120" of snow. Now where I live in the Mohave Desert where it gets mid 110's - 120's all summer long(no snow btw) lol. The first summer I about died out here, but now I'm putting on a jacket when it hits 65(go figure).
You only need two tools - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40; if it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

I stayed in the Majave a few years ago, almost across the street from Joshua Tree National Forest (my sister and brother-in-law were both Jarheads,) and they had some photo's of snow covering the "forest". Kind of odd looking, especially considering it was in the low 100-teens when I was there. :smile:

Yeah GorbGuy, I was stationed at 29 Stumps too. It was fun in the winter. Snow on the ground when you got up but in the 80s by noon.

My next door neighbor is from 29 palms area, he was a Caltrans worker.
