Late holiday present from Malariacontrol
 (United States)

The malariacontrol.net project is expecting to open account creation 1/4/2007. If you are interested that is the day to jump them.

From the post on their message board:

Greetings to malariacontrol.net users for the forthcoming festive seasons.

We are happy to announce open account creation early next year, the date we plan to allow new users to join will be the 4th of January 2007.

We hope that this will enable us to increase the performance by a factor of two to three in the following weeks. We will then be able to fit two or three different models to field data in parallel.

You are very welcome to pass this information on to your team mates and friends if you want to make sure they get a slot. The total number of users for the next phase will depend on the total performance, we expect it to be somewhere between 5000 to 8000.
Thank you all for your continued support, and a
Happy New Year from the project team
Nick

That beta project has been  pretty smooth for me. I've had a p4 on it for quite some time, never pay much attention to it, besides having  very short return times, I've had no problems whatsoever.

Yes, indeedee, they are accepting new members, 'cause I just joined up.  It stopped downloading WUs when  BOINC said, "Suspending work fetch because computer is overcommitted."

Anbody considering MalariaControl should take a look at the following 2 threads over there:

http://www.malariacontrol.net/forum_thread.php?id=298

and

http://www.malariacontrol.net/forum_thread.php?id=315

because their application appears to be poorly written and just beats the bejabbers out of your disk drive.  I've suspended it until they do something about the number of I/O writes they do.

Account creation is expected to close 4/23/7. So if you want in you need to do it quickly.

James, I looked at that first thread, only because yesterday I attached to Malaria Control on another client, seems like back in late January this problem was fixed.
