The latest optimized AstroPulse version is considerably faster than the previous and a definite worthwhile update if you can figure out how to edit the xml.
My stock Q6600 would do a rac of over 6500 if running just AstroPulse right now, bearing in mind that one might have to wait a while for the wingman to report so it's a delayed credit.
Numbers are looking pretty good all around right now.
open the xml with note pad delete the old ap info copy/paste the new one in there. save as... and boom its there restart boinc and you're cooking with gas

My Q6600 RAC dropped from a high of 6100 to 5700-5800 and I'm not running any AstroPulse WU's on it. http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4632075 Do you think running just AstroPulse would increase RAC very much? I'm only running it on one computer an old OC'd Pent D and I'm averaging around 750 credits for 20 hours of crunching. My overall RAC on that machine has dropped quite a bit but I credit it to the slow returns on AstroPulse credits.

Over time with the latest optimized astropulse app the rac will increase, but you'll have to watch for the next version, either optimized or official.
