Re: Ides Of March PG challenge  (United States)
Hmmm...estimated time 33 minutes a piece on a 2.67 ghz processor with 3 gb of ram. Thats 4 minutes for each WU on an 8 core processor average. Should it be faster?

Re: Ides Of March PG challenge  (United States)
actual crunching time is currently between 13 and 17 minutes per core. A WU sent every 2 minutes..

Re: Ides Of March PG challenge  (United States)
yes its a fast paced challenge.  and you should expect some server slowdown due to the massive data transfers

A couple tips for those who have never run in one of these challenges.

1) Only workunits downloaded after the start will be counted towards you challenge score. So you dont want anything in your cache at the start.

2) Be sure the "Send work from any subproject if selected projects have no work" is unchecked. At the start of the challenge it's tough getting work, if your client cant get any PPS LLR it will grab work that wont count!

3) PPS LLR work units are CPU intensive and tolerate zero fault. They generate a fair amount of heat.... Clean Out Your HSF!!! The last PPS LLR challenge I forgot about this and had PCs rebooting and erroring out all around the house. I lost a fair amount of time as I ran around with my compressor hose [EMO]embarrassed.gif[/EMO]

4) Have Fun!!

Only one of the four machines I have here will actually crunch PG and it is the most unreliable machine of the bunch. Go figure.  So I am going to have to pass on this one and keep on crunching Seti throughout the challenge.  I detached PG from the computers here already.

One had bad memory and the other one was getting too hot.  As for the last one, I have no idea what was going on with it.  I tried everything to no avail.  I am not going to worry as we still need Seti work units being crunched.

sounds like PG was a good test for your PC's stability

I suppose they will score everyone crunching as being in the challenge, no need to sign up anywhere?

exactly, anyone who turns in a pss llr wu that have been downloaded after the beginning of the challenge and returned before the contest is completed counts and is considered a competitor[EMO]roar.gif[/EMO].  No need to sign up.

That's Sunday at 1PM for all you Central Zoners

Wish it started earlier. I'll try to attach after work tomorrow, so that will be a fair bit after the start. Unfortunately I'll be at work at start time.

Very nice. Holding 5th would be excellent. I got in late, but should have enough to go until I leave for work in the morning.
