Can I come back?  (United States)
I quit crunching around a year ago. My electric bill needed a rest. I have decided I want to come back, when I build my new system. Im going to build a Core i7 system, probably the 920 processor. Do yall care if I put it online crunching SETI and CDPN again for the team?

Welcome back Catman!  It has been a while. You know how this place is...crunch anything you want.  No permission required!   I'm envious, I've been wanting to build a i7 system but haven't pulled the trigger yet.  Let us know when you get it up and running...

You haven't got it built yet! For shame! Hurry up already! And then get it crunching as fast as possible. Can't be having an idle cruncher!

Hyperthreaded quad core running at 2.66ghz a core, should yield high on SETI or Climate. I think it will run 8 processes at a time, and I only am online using my rig for around 3 hours a day that would slow it down any. Ill keep yall abreast once I get going.

Im up and running. 8 processes at all times. Half SETI half Climate. 10% of a Climate WU took 30 hours. And SETI have been averaging 2.5 for big units and .5 for little ones. I have had one astropulse WU that seti sent to me, 26% done in 17 hours, im not familiar with what kind of times one has on those units. Anyhow, not bad for a 2.66ghz processor not overclocked. Im running at 107F with the stock heat sink and 4 case fans. Should I OC it a bit?

Re: Can I come back?  (Canada)
You need to get optimized on the SETI apps, MB (Multi beam) and AP (AstroPulse). That will make a huge difference on the crunch times. 17 hours that one AP WU would have been done. I'm not the one to talk about overclocking though. That would be nutcase.

Re: Can I come back?  (United States)
Im unfamiliar with optimizing. I didnt do it when I crunched before. If one would care to enlighten.

Re: Can I come back?  (Canada)
Pretty much a matter of dropping the right files into the SETI data directory and restarting BOINC. Someone who knows exactly what you need for that rig should be along shortly. I don't have anything that fast.

Re: Can I come back?  (United States)
the information needed is OS? do you want to do both multibeam(shorter WU's) Astropulse(really long WU's) and or GPU WU's using an NVIDIA CUDA graphics card. and what operations level your PC runs at SSE SSE2 SSE3 SSSE3 etc.  You can find that out by using CPUZ google it and download it. seti forums have the GPU/cpu combo links and the Astropulse/Multibeam Apps can be found at the Lunatics site. Just google "seti optimized"  Lunatics website should be the first

Optimized. 1:20 for big WU, 20 min for little ones. Not sure on the Astropulse at the moment. The only one ive crunched was finished in 50 hours, but I optimized around half way through. Watch me climb.....

Cool beans! Not a whole lot of AP wu's going round right now, but the optimized app should cut crunch times by a scale of 3 or 4.

Re: Can I come back?  (United States)
RAC still rising. 885 on CDPN, and 770 on SETI as of this post. Only the i7 running and 50% to each project.

Re: Can I come back?  (Canada)
Interesting that the rac is rising faster on CPDN, but the SETI should surpass it fairly quickly.

Re: Can I come back?  (United States)
I went the opposite way, just built my new cruncher with an AMD Phenom 2 940 and 4 gigs of memory, using an ATI 4850 so I doubt that'll help with anything.

Re: Can I come back?  (Canada)
Been hearing good things about the Phenom 2, but then again, I could be hearing things!
