Happy Anniversary, TSWB!
(N/A) Modified By paul on 7/29/2007 11:14:43 AM)
As Xaak noted in the IRC channel late last night, today is the one year anniversary of TSWB going live.

Many thanks to Gary and Ron for sticking to their principles in the old DCS back then, and making a stand.

I don't believe there's any other team comprised of individuals that, per person, is more dedicated to distributed computing, specifically around the BOINC engiune, than TSWB.

This also marks the one year anniversary of no moderation. Between Gary, Ron and I, I'm pretty sure there has been absolutely no moderation done, save for a couple of dupe post deletions and post title edits.

That speaks volumes for us. Throw your cards on the table, and let's discuss it. Nobody in the background behind closed doors to tell us what we can or can't do.

Congrats, Team Starfire, each and everyone one of you. Here's to another year of DC bliss. cool.gif

Happy 1st everyone.  Thanks guys for forming this great team and thanks to everyone else who makes this a great place to crunch and hang out.

Re: Happy Birthday, TSWB!

What an amazing year!  We went from a brand new team with nothing to 35th in overall BOINC out of 63,812. We participate in 45 different boinc projects with 286 members.  In our top 2 projects, Seti we're 21st out of 49,411 teams, and in Rosetta we're 24th  out of 5,687.  In our other projects we're in the top 100 in the majority of them.

As for moderation, I've deleted maybe 2 dup posts, one post at the poster's request, and fixed a few links here and there.  Other than once when an outsider tried to start some trouble, and our members handled that themselves, I don't even recall anything we even remotely considered moderating.

Here's to many more years of DC bliss!

Yep, moved maybe 2 posts to more appropriate forums, killed a couple of duplicate posts when the forum was acting up a long time ago. Pretty amazing if you ask me.. It's a great bunch of crunchers we have here.

I really can't call it a birthday. More so it's our first anniversary. Team Starfire had a home at the old place as a SETI@Home club, but we went BOINC and some people didn't like it and I still can't figure out why. It's what allowed us to grow out of complacency and mediocrity and become a top team. The vision and effort of the members and leaders of Team Starfire to transition from Classic SETI to a new BOINC world were dissed by a certain mob, and the mob rules there.

The move to TSWB was our exodus, and what a good move it was. A big thank you to some people that made the move easy and I won't name names because no one gets left out around here (but I wish we'd hear from Carlos). And a big thanks to everyone that believed that Team Starfire was the members, not the web site that hosted our old forum, and joined us at our new home.

Happy Anniversary Team Starfire!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TSWB!

I am happy to be here. This is the BEST community I have ever met. Why? Because the members here are really great!

I am also very proud to be a member of this team. I hope the team will remain for at least the next thousand years.

Thanks to all for keeping the team and TSWB.org up and running and for making the team the most friendly place of the world.

It's hard to believe that it has been one year.  Time goes by fast when you are having a good time.  As far as our members goes, I've always said we have the best of the best...the cream of the crop!  Congratulations ever one, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

I will be honest, I had my doubts, but it had top be done and if anyone could do it well it was certainly us.

Congrats to the old and the new for a well managed and fun place to pursue DC.

Now if I could just get retired and get time to do this a little more often

Congratulations on the first anniversary and a big thanks to Gary, Paul, & Ron for starting this site. Its nice to be able to run the whole gamut of BOINC projects (even though I only do a few, I *could* do others) under one user-name and without having to get permission. While nothing can replace the heady early days of Team Starfire (mini-races, this site sure feels like home.

Happy 1st to everybody on the team.

Each and every member contributes to this team and makes it to what it is, one way or the other !

I at least hope to be around for the next anniversary as well...

They didn't like it precisely because it allowed us to grow out of complacency and mediocrity.  If their teams aren't in the top two, no other teams there should be either.  They never could figure out why we, and our "alien software" were always more successful than they were.

The move was the best thing we could have done given the circumstances.  I rarely even stop by there these days, and it's downright depressing looking at what's happened to that forum.  But the mob got their wish, a couple of puppets running that forum and what's left over there has completly broken spirit.

Enough of the past, let's get back to the future!

What a long, strange trip it's been...

But I'm glad that I've made it with friends.

I know I'm pretty much just in lurk mode and there's a really good reason for that, however, I don't have to feel bad about it either.

This is the best team on the planet.  Bar none.

This is the reason I am here.  No questions about it either.

If you can't beat'em, join'em. Then beat'em.
