That Web Site Many of Us Used To Call Our Home
 (Canada)
I may regret posting this in the morning, but I still like the forums at BBR for the most part. I spent a good deal of my time helping people there. I made a promise not to post in their SETI forum shortly after their split and have kept it. No problems there.

I follow a few of their forums still. Security. A couple of the software forums to keep on top of some programs. A couple of the forums I used to moderate there. I still like to post from time to time in the Canadian chat forum there or the one for my ISP.

However, I wanted to respond to a post n the Canadian chat forum tonight and received this notice:

Your account has been banned from posting until 2006-11-26 18:08:36 for TOS violations.

No word about what the violations were. I have never done anything there which has violated their TOS. It was enough to put my posts on watch, or block keywords. The best part is that no one there had the simple decency to even tell me.

So, the proper thing to do is to send an IM to the mod manager, Scott, whose user name there is fatness, to find out what I have done to incur their wrath now. However, trying to do that resulted in this message:

You have been banned from the instant message system until 2007-05-16 18:31:07

Well, they win. Kinguni no more exists at broadbandreports.com and this is the official notice in case someone happens to pick up the user name in the future there. I'm still going to read their forums as many of their active users are top notch. Too bad the moderating team has gone to hell in hand basket.

Christ, that is low. When the good hearted users that made the site what it is are being banned, while the goon squad whose entire life seems to consist of targeting users that had the courage to stand and fight for what they believed in, runs amok in the moderating. What is really sad is the handful of users who like to stir trouble are allowed to do so time and time again, and again, the good hearted people are driven away for taking a stand.

I could go on and on, but what's the point. It's the users that make a site, not the moderators. If you do find out the cause of the ban, please let us know.

Well, that's about a load of crap. I too still visit some of the other boards from time to time. Namely, the photo forums and AT&T forums (perhaps hoping someday DSL will make it my way.)

Out of spite, I'm going to switch projects for a while. All of my horsepower will now go to SETI instead CDPN. I know it isn't much, but perhaps I can help lower that time to take over a little bit and it's the one thing we can all do out of revenge and not be banned or whatever.

Sorry to hear the news Kinguni. Truely sad when some people can't just play nice.

I closed my account there on 10-10 (ironically, the 10-code for "on scene").

There are probably 4 or 5 people there I'll miss, none of whom are "management."

Why I left: "Management team turned out to be even bigger a$$holes than thought previously."

In RL, though, I still continue to buy Thrift Store Underwear.

Well, I don't regret posting.

They have a right to moderate as they see fit. We have a right to voice our opinions about the way they do it. It just really bothers me that such double standards can be held by people I used to work with and respect.

Hey BBR mods! Team Starfire left BBR.com when I did. Accept it. You don't have to keep fighting us.

Don't let the CPDN RAC fall off too far.

I have 200 or so computers just waiting to be BOINC'd. I 'spose I could get those loaded up and do some CDPN while the workhorses do SETI for a few weeks. :)

It is very sad indeed.  I guess they will never learn.  My use of the forums have fallen off as of late due to work and mostly just not really wanting to read more that I need to at work.

I still visit the VOIP forum, the America's Army forum (which is private), the User Hot Deals and For Sale forums as well.  I keep the OOL and Bellsouth forums favorited to keep an eye on my internet and my parent's as well.  But I rarely post as much as I used to.  I just have no interest there.

Ironically, I still have the Seti forum as a favorite, but don't really recognize but a few of the people who are still on the team.

If you can't beat'em, join'em. Then beat'em.

I wonder why you got modded?

I still post over there, no probs yet. But I do stay out of all of the DC forums.

They've still got my profile "active", too.  Mostly I'm playing in the Digital Imaging forums, though.

Do they still have DC forums?

Don't feel bad, Ron.  Scott's got me site banned and has had for a month now.  Some day if you've got a few hours I'll fill you in about all the knives in my back.  I gotta imagine you were relieved of modchat access awhile back...but that's no loss.  The inmates have taken over the asylum and the whole place will implode soon.

I may have to move my five Team Helix crunchers here, since they seem to not want anything to do with me anymore.

Take care...

I don't believe that I'm reading that from you my old friend, especially since you were vocal against us at the time of the split. We really must chat. Got me almost thinking about signing up for a deal from my telco with free long distance now. He, if you can fireup mIRC (we can can help you) we can do a private chat . I can always find a few hours for friends.

Edit: The modchat access was removed well before the split.

I still frequent one forum that's not advertised, although not as much as I use to. The bottom line is, this is our home and anyone is welcome...unlike the other place!

"especially since you were vocal against us at the time of the split"

Well, at the time I didn't necessarily agree with your methods, but that turned out to be due to not having all the facts as it often does (the email spam ticked me off, though, and you know what happens when that happens  ;) ).  I apologize for any hurt feelings or discomfort that may have caused.

I'm in the middle of a short work week and then I'm out of town for two so we'll have to postpone that chat for a short bit but definitely, let's catch up.  You'll love one anecdote about a "beef closet" synonym-named forum and why he kicked me out of that and all other private forums there for "security reasons", too, even though I had already been site banned weeks before.  He now thinks he's Homeland Security and is about as effective.

Anyway, thanks for the shout back.  Hope you and yours are doing well.

Wow Doc, really surprised to hear all of that. Glad you found us though and welcome home!

I don't post a lot over there anymore except to a couple of forums and mostly to non-sense threads. (doing my part to just chew up their space and bandwidth.) :) The whole place is really going down hill with some very few exceptions IMHO. The site has really gotten quite boring and I usually just browse through when I don't have anything better to do.

Stick a fork in me! I'm done! I'm slidding in with both feet, a cold beer in one hand, a hot blonde on the other and yelling "YeeHaw! What a ride!"
