Fun, Fun, Fun
 (N/A)

I setup the home PC to run 24/7, then I added my work PC and only "snooze" the client when I'm working on resource-intensive stuff.  Today, I brought the corporate server online.  .  I have a "parts" PC at home that is being revived next week so it can crunch as well.  I'm also due for a corporate laptop so when it arrives...crunch, crunch, crunch.

In other words, Nicole is back!  I'm looking forward to the bragging stats-addiction teamwork again.

I'm working on it, really!  This new forum is hurting my brain.  I'll get it figured out by this summer.

yah, I tried that optimize thing...it killed BOINC.  "cannot connect to a client"

Man it is soooooo not great being a noob again.  I'll check it out in a bit and see what happened.

Re: Fun, Fun, Fun

well it is dead...period.  I guess I'll reinstall and not optimize.

How big of a difference is there between "out of the box" and "optimized" anyway?

thanks Dana.  I did a "repair" and will try to optimize again.  If it tanks twice, I may need some help.

*sigh*

Same result. It will not connect to the client.  Can somebody post links to the specific files I should be downloading?  Maybe I grabbed the wrong stuff.

We'll need to know the type of processor you're using, as versions are built supporting various instruction sets and cores. There also some various versions floating around, the latest I know of are here- http://calbe.dw70.de/  for various projects Crunch3r is working on.

No, NicoleDiana, I was actually prodding Paul to come up with a FAQ for optimizing.  I'd offer advice, but I haven't crunched SETI for almost a year now and am too far out of the loop to give advice on the matter.

Dang, I'm slow. I thought she was off looking up a FAQ.

I guess I'll make one up. embarrassed.gif

I'm always out of the loop so I know what ya mean.

I have it running on all the machines again but never could get BOINC to work after optimization so I restored it back to the original install.

On a side note, while on the treadmill at the Y today, I wondered what it would take to turn that digital panel into a cruncher.

whoah. I like the way you think!

A very rough draft of an Optimizing SETI FAQ is up here-  http://www.tswb.org/FAQs/tabid/183/Default.aspx

Just for you!

edit- on second thought, I think I'll make a quick faq for people running XP 32bit, and the more popular cpus, just to get the majority of people started real quick.
