35% of the team has gone "inactive"!
 (United States)

What the.....I just checked the stats, and more than 1/3 of the team has gone inactive! I'm all for splitting up power for the different projects, but keep a machine or two on SETI....it's where we all started!

Yep, we've been slowly losing ground in RAC for a while.

It's all good either way.  We should be looking for fresh blood to fill the seti inactivity of longtime members who decide to crunch for different projects anyways.

I think we need to start looking at ways to effectively begin a recruiting drive.

Not speaking for the rest, but I had to cut way back on electricity.. When things look better, the fleet will be in full force again.

Ship the fleet here. The electricity is cheaper.

I am also expecting to cut back on crunching soon. It gets too hot in the computer room during the summer plus it should be just me here so not as many computers will be in use.

Well Living around the Gulf Coast means paying inflated electric rates to pay for all the damage done by the recent big hurricanes, Katrina and Rita. I'm getting $500 electric bills.....

I live in Mississippi I have most definately heard of A/C. It was funny one year I was in northern Missouri during a horrible heat wave they were having. To me it was normal for late spring and early fall, but a little cool for summer (highs in low 90's, humidity under 50%).

It's actually more the lack of people in the house. I have always run BOINC (SETI) as originally intended. It harvests unused CPU cycles, without people around the computers are more likely to be turned off. Fortunately the two most productive happen to be the two I use daily.

Of course having some dummy convert the most exposed room in the house to a computer room doesn't help. It can get several degrees hotter in the computer room than in the rest of the house even with the A/C on.

I have 3 PC's in my main room, my main one, my wife's main one and my file/print server.  I think since I was able to aquire a PCI wireless card, I'm going to move the FPS server out to the bonus room in the computer nook there along with the printer.  It will free up some space on my desk at least.  My computer room is on the 2nd floor, in the front of the house where it receives probably the bulk of the sun all day.  Even the past two days when it was in the 80s without the AC, this room was hot.

Well, I'm frozen in position 32, just about to complete 400k credits.
But that's because I've just moved from Brazil to South Africa and
I'm still in a transition. Plan to buy a desktop soon and, like nucase,
I plan to come back strong, he, he

I recently shut down one AMD 1800. It was flakey, and half the time it was drawing power but not crunching. Power is pretty cheap here, so I'm not sure how much it will save me. I may give it a closer look when I'm feeling better -- I've been battling a respiratory infection the last few weeks, and it's easy to give in to apathy.

Meanwhile I started running the KWSN Ni! 2.2B SSE3 Core 2 optimized client, and wu's are finishing in almost half the time. Like 90mins each, on average. My RAC will jump like crazy in the next few days. I installed the MX version on my semi-crippled 2500+ and I'm seeing a similar effect. That one is running seti/Rosetta 50/50. Rosetta is hurting a bit, but my seti RAC should look pretty good soon.
