Cache down to one or two WU's
 (United States)
Anyone else having problems with their cache?  Mine is down to one or two wu's on every system.  Any SETI down time and I'll be out of work in a couple hours.

I think I just fixed my problem.  The other day I was looking at my preferences and saw this under Network usage.
Network usage
Computer is connected to the Internet about every
(Leave blank or 0 if always connected.
BOINC will try to maintain at least this much work.)
1 days
I changed it to blank and forgot about it.  I went back a few minutes ago and changed it back to 1 and now all 13 systems have downloaded their full cache.

Are you running 5.10.7 Manager? If so, (and perhaps 5.8.1x), the "Leave blank or 0 if always connected" works, and in effect reports results immediately. You can then set "Keep work for an additional X days" to maintain your cache level. Setting it that way supposedly works better with the new system of aborting wu's that have no chance of getting credit, implemented in 5.10.x.

Since S@H is trying to clear out the old tapes to make the transfer over to the new tapes made with the newer recorder, this system should help the process along if enough users migrate to the new Manager. That is, if they release 5.10.8 soon. That's the bug fix for the pulled 5.10.7, and it is out in beta for the last 3 days or so. confuse.gif

I had installed 5.10.7 on that system but had all kinds of problems.  I put 5.8.0 back on it.  5.8.0 has always worked well for me.  Once the bugs are out and 5.10.8 is released I'll try it on one of my systems and see how it does.

Re: Cache down to one or two WU's

I had 5.10.7 up, my cache went to about 4 wu's across 5 projects, none of which is Seti.

Backed out 5.10.7 for 5.8.16, and I just looked to find 1 wu in progress.

I fired up rc5-72 again, but distributed.net is pretty much orphaned by its sponsors.

Are we past the age of distributed computing? I dunno.  Do I care? Absolutely not. (I lost my sanity once; that's enough. )
