Windows Beta Test App 4.24 available

The Beta 4.24 app for Einstein has been released, as per the link. http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/forum_thread.php?id=4640

The good news is that it runs about 30%+ faster than the current 4.02 app.

Note that you can run the official 4.02 and 4.24 beta apps together, as explained here http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/app_test.php

My machine is running einstein_S5R1_4.02_windows_intelx86 as the client, crunching the S5 WUs.  As soon as I get drained (about another 12 hours), I'll load this one up on my Athlon 600 and see how it goes.

I just got some results back for the 4.24 app, using the long S5 WU's.

- 4.24 app crunches in 22k+ seconds http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/result.php?resultid=38656496

-4.02 app crunches in 29k+ seconds http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/result.php?resultid=38499809

That gives a speed increase of about 25%!!

I just posted this over in the project forum's thread:

Athlon 600, 256 MB RAM, Windows 98SE

Under 4.02 on S5 WU, average of last 10 = 32,475.3 (9 hours)
First 4.24 S5 WU, Outcome = Success, time = 24,403 (6.8 hours)
Took 75% as long.
================
So, it's looking good for me.

I'm seeing an average decrease of 38% on my P4 2.6ghz non-HT, and 35% on my Athlon 2700+. Awesome!

Last 2 WUs have been 21,719 and 21,527, (6.0 hours).  Looks like I can do about 3.5 / day now, instead of the 2.5 I was doing before. c014.gif party-smiley-020.gif

It says, "Bruce has made the Beta Apps 4.17 and 4.24 official. You can now remove the app_info.xml and restart the client to switch back to the official, auto-update path."

As soon as my current WU completes, I'll do that and see what it does with the 2 WUs that are cached.
