BOINCView problem  (United States)

I've recently installed BOINC 6.4.7 (running LHC & E@H) on my "new" laptop.  It works well.  The only downside is that the machine sure gets warm. [EMO]bigsmile.gif[/EMO]

However, I can't get BOINCView to monitor it.  The machine name (in BOINCView) has a red circle with a white x in it.  (When a machine cannot be contacted, a red question mark is displayed.)  I don't see anything in any log that would indicate what the problem is.  I've set it up similar to my other local network machine which is running Win98SE and BOINC 5.4.x and that machine is monitored properly, as is the local BOINC 6.4.7.

Re: BOINCView problem  (Canada)
You probably forgot some little step. Just to sure, you added the remote_hosts.cfg file in the boinc data directory of the new computer (probably C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\BOINC) and listed in the cfg file the hostname of the computer you want to access it from?

Re: BOINCView problem  (United States)

Bah humbug!

This is the reason for asking questions to an august audience like this.  I had the 2 files, remote_hosts.cfg and gui_rpc_auth.cfg in both the BOINC program folder and the data folder.  I had been manipulating the one in the program folder.  The gui_rpc_auth.cfg file in the data folder had a bad password in it.  As soon as I fixed that and restarted BOINC, BOINCView picked up the machine.

Thank you.

The BOINCView Wiki needs to be modified to reflect the current version of the program.  It is oriented about 2 versions back. [EMO]sad.gif[/EMO] Also, the new BOINC, with the data split out is what actually caused me the problem.

Re: BOINCView problem  (Canada)
I kind of figured that. Luckily I have computers that have gone from the older BOINC versions to the newer ones and the cfg files were moved to the new data directory by the BOINC installation.

Someone is working on a boincview replacement right now. I imagine it'll be a long time until it's ready for prime time though.

got info on it yet? I wouldn't mind looking at it if there is anything public.

I think he's pretty far away even from alpha testing it honestly. Current thread on the SETI boards. Older thread on the SETI boards.
