BOINC 6.6.20 released for Windows, Windows x64, and MacOS X (Canada)

Howdy Folks,
 
 
 
We are pleased to announce the first of the 6.6 clients to be ready for
public consumption. 
 
 
 
This release includes:
 
1.       A new CPU/GPU scheduler.
 
2.       An improved work-fetch policy.
 
3.       Improved communication handling between the manager and client
software.
 
4.       Consolidation between the grid based advanced view and the list
based advanced view for accessibility improvements.
 
 
 
Future 6.6 releases will include the updated localization files that the
localizers have been hard at work on.
 
 
 
We would like to thank all the testers for their hard work over the last
few months, without your help we would not have had as stable a client
as we have now.

6.2.19 works fine for me....as does 5.10.45...and 6.5.0 :P

From what I've been reading the developers felt 6.4 was such a terrible release that they decided they needed to get this one out now.

I read it as 6.4.X was released as something for the gpu people to use until they refined the cpu/gpu scheduler. They've got it substantially improved.

This version has a nice little bonus of updated attach to project list, and remembers your email address for every new project you join.

installed and running on the quad downloaded a lot more work too

Tried it..Dumped it. 6.5.0 still works better with GPU rigs for caching wu's.

I've done horrifying things with salad tongs. It's really eaten into my social life.

had my son install 6.6.20 on his rig and had him install raistmers v10 app
works great and even runs the 6.03 app on the GPU

BOINC 6.6.21 released for Windows, Windows x64,	and MacOS X

This release has a backwards compatibility fix with older BOINC clients
as well as some setup and screensaver fixes on Windows.

 

To trigger the new setup code just choose the 'Allow everyone to control
BOINC' option during setup.

Why this one wasn't released first, I dunno, as they were talking about these bugs before 6.6.20 was released.

They have lots of outstanding longstanding bugs to take care of, so I wouldn't be surprised to see updates to the BOINC client quite frequently now.

Note that for 6.6.20 and up, GPU users have the toggle "use gpu while computer is in use", disabled by default in 6.6.2.0 and up after discussion among beta testers. Seems like some gpu tasks can exibit slight slowdowns in graphics and ssytem responsiveness, like VLAR Seti wu. The setting is in Boinc Manager Advanced tab / Preferences/Use GPU while computer is in use.
