I updated last night.  Did anyone else have major problems waiting for this thing to download all the information it needed?  I started the install process at around 8:00PM last night, but it didn't finish downloading everything until 8:30 this morning.  It took me about 12 1/2 hours for this thing to fully download and start running.

All I've heard was, at times, it may take several hours to migrate the data to it's new location on your hdd. Why it would take that long is beyond me, but I have seen it referenced several times in the beta mailing list and FAQ's.

It is usually CPDN's fault. The old slab models purposely left several hundred MBs of data on the computer. CPDN crashes can also cause extra data to be left on the computer. If you don't clean up after CPDN it can use several gigabytes of hard disk space. Einstein can also be brutal at the end of a run; each data file is 10 to 20 megabytes, at the end of a run (like now) you may have a datafile for each task instead of the normal one per about 10 to 20 tasks.

Small problem with keyboard and mouse activity detection in Vista with UAC turned on. May be a quick public release shortly.

Not a problem with other OS scenarios

Well Paul since you seem to be doing the most research on this......if you come across a command line switch that will let me install it onto an existing user account, rather than using this "boinc_master" acccount, let me know.

6.2.16 for Windows; 6.2.15 all others; 5.10.45 is also listed as recommended for all platforms http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

I'm standing pat.

Just following the beta mailing list is all. AFAIK, that change is needed for full compatibility with Vista. Why they didn't go with administrator account is beyond me.

Thats part of my problem though. It isn't needed for Vista, atleast not the way they've done it.

Bug found and fixed, see thread in
[boinc_alpha] BOINC 6.2.16 for Windows and Windows x64.

As a workaround, remove QCN account file.

Seems like a couple bugs, one with Seti and the QCN file and a buffer overflow, the other with Astropulse coming out of screensaver,... 6.17 beta testing is commencing.

Beta did not last long. 6.2.17 is now a recommended version.

No mention of 6.2.18 in the beta list, but it's up there as a recommended version. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

Camelot_One, I saw here- http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Release_Notes where they list the reasoning behind using unprivileged account to run BOINC-

Improved Windows security

BOINC now offers Protected application execution: in this mode, applications are run under an unprivileged account, so that they cannot access your files.

NOTE: Choosing this option will require a reboot after setup has completed the installation. Setup creates several users and groups on the system and you will not be able to properly manage BOINC until after the system has been rebooted.

[edit] Windows Vista compatibility

BOINC Manager now starts up without any security warnings when you log in. Application graphics now work in all cases.

[edit] Support for multiple selection in GUI

You can now select multiple items (projects, tasks, etc.) and operate on them as a group.

It's in here somewhere: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Deploying_BOINC_on_networks
