BOINC alpha test
 (United States)

Is anyone else in the BOINC alpha test?

I had a test team laying around so I changed it to TSWB.

We spam each other with emails instead of using the forum.

Right now the alpha project is set up for download tests. The tasks have like 5mb input and output files and take a few seconds of CPU time. Most of the testing is done using other projects.

I had set up a team at one point to test something, I just changed the name so there would be less odd names in the manager. Only 7 more projects without TSWB to go.

Re: BOINC alpha test & other alpha projects
 (United States)

I would like to go around and make teams in all of the closed alpha projects I participate in. That would include LHC alpha, pirates, protiens@home, and renderfarm at least. None of these projects would deserve space on the front page until they are out of the testing phase.

On a more realistic note, I will second any project listed in my sig. Please let me know if anyone else participates in any of these projects. I am ready to get all those odd team names (BOINCstats) out of my accounts.

I'm OK with all of that. Please be vocal if you like to see more team effort put into any of those projects.

Re: BOINC alpha test & other alpha projects
 (United States)

Since there were only positive responses in this thread I have made a few teams.

Proteins@home closed alpha: http://biology.polytechnique.fr/proteinsathome/team_display.php?teamid=38

BURP closed? pre-alpha: http://burp.boinc.dk/team_display.php?teamid=505

LHC alpha closed: http://lhcathome-alpha.cern.ch/team_display.php?teamid=35

Pirates@home test project (the Einstien screensaver was developed here) invitation code required: http://pirates.spy-hill.net/team_display.php?teamid=549

Spinhenge@home newly opened beta: http://spin.fh-bielefeld.de//team_display.php?teamid=152

Renderfarm's server is down at the moment and may be getting a new URL. I'll add it in the next few days.

Re: BOINC alpha test & other alpha projects

Spinhenge seems pretty stable so far, it's a molecular dynamics project. BURP will be a cool project someday rendering animations, however that day is not here yet. Pirates is fun but finding an invatation code is not always easy, there are some in their forums but they may be outdated. LHC alpha & proteins are semi-inactive at the moment, proteins should have a new testing round next week though.

As with any project look around in the forums and see if it interests you before you start running it.

Of course. Sometimes it's just nice to put a little team effort behind a project though. I'll stick to what I'm running for now then.

Renderfarm beta: http://server2.povaddict.com.ar/pov/team_display.php?teamid=79

The URL still is subject to change, but the team is created now.

New alpha project Docking@home is accepting testers. The team page is http://docking.utep.edu/team_display.php?teamid=7 got a nice low number to start with at this one.

Nice number!

Project Description

DAPLDS or Dynamically Adaptive Protein-Ligand Docking System is a project that involves collaboration among the University of Texas - El Paso, The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), and the University of California - Berkeley. This project, through implementation and use of a cyber tool, DAPLDS, that enables adaptive multi-scale modeling in a GC environment, will further knowledge of the atomic details of protein-ligand interactions and, by doing so, will accelerate the discovery of novel pharmaceuticals. The goals of the project are:

1. to explore the multi-scale nature of algorithmic adaptations in protein-ligand docking
2. to develop cyber infrastructures based on computational methods and models that efficiently accommodate these adaptations.

Looks very interesting!

Very alpha right now. Don't attach unless you really want to help them test it. Initial WUs download with estimated times a fraction of what they will take.
