BOINCView 1.4 released
(N/A) Modified By paul on 1/4/2007 4:01:51 AM)
I saw on the SETI boards where BOINCView 1.4 was released. This is a great utility to manage your clients and projects from 1 client. http://boincview.amanheis.de/ Here's the thread at Berkeley's forum- http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=36852

In it are a few links on how to set up BOINCView, http://boincview.amanheis.de/?page=faq#topic4 and here http://boinc.berkeley.edu/gui_rpc_auth.php

Also, here's a nice feature-

When you use BOINCView to attach your hosts to a project - it brings up a list of projects to make the attaching process easier. Unfortunately, it was only current at the time when BOINCView was released (and it hasn't been updated in ver 1.4).

Thanks to Webmaster Yoda, you can download and install an updated list of projects to attach to.

The list is available as a zip file at http://www.boinc-australia.net/downloads/BV-Projects.zip

Instructions on its use are available here

I'll second Paul on this one.  Boincview is a great utility, and for me it's a must have for managing all of my boxes from one central location.  Boincview does remotely almost everything you can do from the Boinc Manager on the local box, and some things you can't even do there.

If you have more than one cruncher, it's worth checking out.  If you run a fleet, I can't see being without it.

I guess it is too high tech for me, can't seem to get anything to work. First of all I can't even attach to the projects as the one instruction said, all I get, after I select Seti is there are no compatible client found for verification process.

I'll keep messing with it, I seemed to have tried this once before with no success. I salute those who created it, but for the lay person like me it is very cryptic.

Greg, I'm in the same boat. Gary had written a nice FAQ on how to set up BoincView over at our old place, very easy to follow. I used that both times I set up BV, once on the old laptop and again on this newer one.

Gary said he has a FAQ module for the site ready to go, and is working on a new FAQ for BV 1.4, in the meantime, his old FAQ worked fine for me today.

Re: BOINCView 1.4 released

From my past experiences with boincview, i've found that using versions 1.2.1 or lower will work with adding and removing projects remotely.  I dunno why, it just doesn't work for me either.  So, whenever I need to add/remove a project on multiple hosts, I use the lower version. I revert to the most recent non-beta version to monitor activity with version 1.2.2.

The ports changed after that I think. Should be port 31416. I can attach and detach just fine with the latest official release.

Ok Paul, the good news is the FAQ that Gary wrote helped me get it up and running. Kudos to Gary.

Now my next hurdle; I see the clients and can view the progress. I see completed work on the clients so I'm selecting the icon on the tool bar that "Report Finished Tasks, Update Projects...". When I click it, I get a dialog box that has the word Confirm and the text below it reads "Retry communications at computer XYZ(client)." I click Yes, but the update doesn't occur.

So what am I missing?

Greg

Update: When I select to update All Projects on Select computer it seems to work.
