Now we need a TSWB skin for the BOINC Manager.

BTW the new CPU scheduler makes this almost a must upgrade for any host with multiple CPUs (HT included) or multiple projects. I got a ~20% boost in RAC when the first version of this scheduler was released for testing.

Can you explain further please. Do I have to do something with BOINC, or is this CPU scheduler built-in?

TIA FD.

It's built in FD. Just stop BOINC, install the new version, restart and you should be good to go.

I'll give it a try, I have used Crunch3rs version earlier, but if it boosts production, it's worth a check out.

How ever I'm going to check it closely, now I have a ratio or 1CS per every 213 sec crunching time,

if this changes too much and this isn't giving anything else in return, I still think I would prefer Crunch3rs version as it had this

"report results immediately" function...

Crunch3r has released boinc ver 5.8.4. All features of Berkeley release as well as improved benchmarks, for projects where that still matters. Also has cpu affinity and Return Results Immediately.

When I first saw this, I wondered why would he be using 5.8.4, so I downloaded both his 64 bit and 32 bit versions. 64 bit is based on 5.9.0.64, 32 bit on 5.9.0.32, which is pretty cool. Both require Berkeley's 5.8.8 (latest official release) installed first.

Anyway, with the improved cpu scheduler in Berkeley's version, everyone should be upgrading to this new BOINC manager. This is a must have, like John said earlier.

The new scheduler normally waits for a checkpoint to switch tasks and schedules multiple CPUs independantly, so there is almost no wasted CPU time. Actual improvement depends on your settings, especially your write to disk setting and leave applications in memory setting. All you have to do is upgrade to the new version, it's built-in.

Return results immediately is not a desired setting. It nearly doubles the load on the project's servers compared to having a small queue and the larger the queue the greater the relative impact on the server. Setting a small queue will cause your results to be returned quickly without as large an impact on the servers.

But that page says WinXP, I still run Win2K... I don't think it will work, but I can try...

Re: BOINC 5.8 now ready for public release

Well, the Windows XP 32 bit version did work on Win2K also,

how ever there is really no difference at all in preformance...

earlier I had a ratio of 213,14 and now with not too much to compare I have some 213,39 which is just the same...

But it's a neat little interface and it's always fun to be able to make new skins etc...

so if it doesn't affect preformance in any negative way you have nothing to loose on updating.

I'll update my Conroe now also and see if there is any difference times ...
