(reminder) BOINC needs GB of memory
 (N/A)
Just a reminder those of you with dual core or hyprethreaded computers running BOINC and just about any DC project, some worse than others, you really need a gigabyte of memory.

I don't see it talked about it here much, I was just reminded myself when a module went out on me, I was forced to use a 2x256 MB pair of ddr2 as backup until I rma'ed the 2x512 pair. It's been a couple of weeks, and my e6600 @3265 mhz has dropped from 2000 to 1700 RAC.

Projects like Rosetta on dual core or HT clients use up 350MB of memory if it's available, SETI uses just 70MB or so, but still benefits from a GB of memory. Don't know why that is, but it is...

It gets even more serious at protien preditor, they have some tasks now that will not even download if the host does not have a full gigabyte of memory available after the OS/BIOS takes it's chunk. That means most hosts that nominally have a gigabyte will not have enough memory for those tasks.
