Release notes:

  • New CPU Scheduler.
  • New Work Fetch Policy.
  • CPU Capability detection.
  • Revamped logging solution.
  • Improved security for POSIX compliant systems (only implemented for the Mac)
  • Add support for file compression on upload.
  • BOINC Simple GUI.
  • Added memory usage limits for BOINC applications. (Check preferences for new settings)

I think some of those features were in previous releases, but it may be a worthwhile update.

I'm still using 5.8.8 and haven't seen any need to upgrade. It has worked so good that I've been afraid to do anything!

It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues

I recommend that you upgrade to at least 5.8.11. The versions after that fixed specific communications issuses if you are not experincing them then there is no reason to upgrade past 5.8.11. If I remember correctly .8 had serious problems with the DCF calculations.

Good to know. No real problems here with 5.8.15, save for one dialup box that has communication issues. May give this one a try.

All of my hosts are still on 5.4.11.  No problems here.

I also still use the optimized 5.8.8 and have no intention changing as long as it works !

I really injoy the "report results imediatly" function, also it's about 5% faster than the official version.

The only thing is that ones in a while if I haven't rebooted the PC in a few days (or a week or so), it tends to create errors and shuts down.

How ever the process is still runing in the background as I have installed them as a service, it's just the manageer that shuts down !

I updated my home hosts this evening, no problems at all, it was a simple, painless task.  I thought that I'd have to add the chicken optimized app to each one all over again, but the upgrade did just that, upgraded the clients to the newer recommended version.  I will do the work machines on Monday.
