Acer Quad Core for $550.00 Best Buy
(United States) Modified By carp on 1/21/2008 10:23:16 AM)
No not the greatest specs for crunching but a very quick machine if you are looking for a budget upgrade for home or office.  I had to get something(laptop is terminal) but needed drum hardware and a PC so I couldn't go for a better rig.  Anyways, I bought one 1/18/08 for $709.00.  It's $550.00 now so off I go to get the difference back  Once I get the price matched, total for me is $850 for PC and LG 21"+ LCD.  Only 2 memory slots so 4GB is going to be max for memory.  I hang around 660MB-1GB in use

It doesn't come with alot of bloatware.  Only running rosetta on one core until I can look under the hood and perform any needed minor cooling upgrades.  Kind of like Vista except for UAC or whatever it is that pops up way to often.  Think I'm gonna shut it off.

 (N/A)

On the UAC issue.....

Right click on the start button - properties. Customize the start menu to include the RUN command

Then start - run msconfig

Click on the far right tab, there is actually an automated "disable UAC" option. Run it, and that annoying crap will go away. (after a reboot)

You'll also want to modify the Security Center - "Change how security center notifies me" to disable the annoying tool tip popups telling you UAC is disabled.
