GeForce 4 MX420 manufacturer?
 (N/A)

SiSoft Sandra suggests I upgrade the BIOS on my NVIDIA GeForce4 MX420 card.

NVIDIA talks like they don't make any of their own brand cards.

Anybody know how to determine who the manfacturer was?

No clues that I can fathom, and definitely not blatantly obvious, or I wouldn't be posting, eh? :)

I did find this one http://www.nextgenelectronics.com/xfx420.shtml  .  Google is your friend.

Here is another  http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/graphicscards/0,39023860,10000306,00.htm

Or maybe it's this one  http://www.bfgtech.com/420_redux.html

Thanks, fesstess!

The first looks pictorially like the layout, but their website is out to lunch until 404. :)

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm not having problems; it's just SiSoft Sandra's suggestion that the BIOS is old and there might be a flash upgrade.

I'm skeptical about this recommendation, Schnooky. Unless you have a specific reason to do so -- ie bugfix or feature upgrade -- I wouldn't take the risk. I've gone through a lot of cards over the years, and I've only flashed my 6800GT. I did that with a hacked bios that boosts the card's voltage to make it easier to overclock it to Ultra levels (the GT is an underclocked Ultra). But in general it isn't necessary.

I think some programmer was desperate to add a feature to SiSandra, and thought "Oh, let's recommend a bios flash to anyone with a card more than X years old."

Yup, Mike, I'm a reluctant flasher myself.  I think I may have flashed two mainboard BIOS's, tops.

Moot point, anyway--nVIDIA doesn't build the boards, and even they can't id the mfr of this one.  Xaak is sending me a newer board anyway.

And had I found a flash upgrade, I'd still think about it long and hard--a bad flash is a major screw-up, and I try to avoid those! :D

I also agree--blindly recommending that there might be a BIOS upgrade based solely on age is a very weak recommendation.  (Otherwise, I'd need my personal BIOS flashed; I prefer to just get dumber!)
