Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
 (N/A)

You might have been asked that dreaded question by an employer, but...

Intel sees that differently.

I don't find that to be a surprising development.

The quad core desktop CPU is said to be 70% faster in integer performance than the Core 2 Duo.

It will be interesting to see how well this works.  In the early 90's, TeraData had servers that could accomodate up to 12 cpu's, but documented that after 8, additional cpu's didn't increase performance!  All the power went into task scheduling between cpus resulting in no net gain.

80 cores might involve setting a lot of task-to-core affinity to approach throughput proportional to the sum of the horsepower.

Obviously, I don't see M$ coming anywhere near getting this right.

Maybe it's just too early to tell yet, but 1,395.94 in RAC seems to be low for a Quad core.  I am estimating that this sucker should be in the 2,500+ range.

More than likely just started to crunch in the past 2 weeks. Generally, I see enthusiasts with the first new cores overclocked showing up on that list first. Our overclocked C2D's are showing 1900-2200 RAC, having leveled off quite some time ago. Overclocked or not, it will be interesting to see where they end up.

I think I'll pass on the initial C2Q, since it's priced at the $1000 range, and wait until more mainstream C2Q's hit the market.
