Where to buy replacement Inspiron 6000 fan?
 (United States)

My Dell Inspiron 6000, which is out of warranty, is in serious need of a new cooling fan(lots of scary noises). Is this something that I will have to buy from Dell? Will they even sell me one? Or, is there a better source for this? Perhaps a different, quieter, better brand of fan can be had? This thing has always been noisy, as in air noise not the noises of death that it now exhibits. The following link is from the service manual, and shows the exact fan needed.

Depending on what condition you want, I try here http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=2645&prevaction=category&previd=141&prevstart=30 first, they've always had decent prices, good service. Not sure if those are pulls or new. I do buy quite a bit of Dell laptop parts off ebay, have had excellent results, just have to be thorough in your research.

I own an inspiron 8000 and had it for 7 years without a single problem.  On the other hand, my buddy from work owns an 8100 and had tons of trouble, from the display not working, fan replacement and several other issues.  He contacted Dell, but then went to Ebay since Dell was going to charge an arm and a leg just for a replacement not under warranty.   Check ebay for the whole laptop as-is, they might be able to sell you the fan out of a non working one.

It ain't easy being greazy..
