Flatpanel monitor cable help, please !

Lucky me ... maybe...

When I was out today I happened to find this flat panel monitor out. Someone had just put it in a plastic bag and left it on the ground leaning against a rock.

First when I bicycled by it I ignored it, but when I was on my home again a half hour later it still was there. I thought, "what the heck, it is not like anyone seems to wanna claim it", so I took it, nobody argued.

How ever I tried it when I got home but there is some problems.

For the first there was no power cable to it at all, but with a little tinkering I managed to find a suitable 12V transformer and a suitable socket so now the green light comes on when I turn it on anyways.. How ever I'm a bit puzzled about the monitor cable. This is what it was connected to ... with what I think I looks like ordinary CRT monitor cable, and it didn't work when I tried to connect it to the computer.

How ever I have never had a flat panel monitor before so I don't exactly know what the sockets should look like and of course, I have no spare one.  This is how the socket looks on the monitors back side..

But perhaps someone with not that much knowledge had tried it and didn't get it to work and just left it outside ??

I don't know, but I thought I might ask if anyone of you know what type of cable it should have ?

Maybe it would be worth to buy the right type and test if I can get the monitor to work... And the monitor is a SAMPO, 15" looking exactly like this one...

I also so badly want a  flat panel monitor and it would be great if I could get it to work

That should be the right cable.  If the cable is good.  The transformer you're using need to have the proper wattage/amperage rating too, if the monitor can't draw enough power it won't work.  Just the voltage and plug size doesn't mean much.

My guess is that they left it out because it didn't work.

No more to say.

It is a very hick thing to leave any dangerous garbage (probably this isn't the right term for it but you know what I mean) on the street like this...

Could be, but there was also a Creative Video Blaster WebCam 5 in the same bag, and it works without any faults ...

But you are right of course, I couldn't get it to even flicker... *sigh*

well, at least my son got a fairly good web cam, much better than the one he have now...

My LCD monitor has a compatible video cable (D-15 connector on each end) with the difference (at least I haven't seen this before on any CRT) that there's a balun near each end, instead of only at the computer end.  Otherwise, I can switch the cable end-for-end and it all works the same.

Now, recently I had to replace the power "brick" and mine has an output rating of 5 amps 12 VDC and 5 amps 5 VDC.  I suspect the prior brick fried a regulator and was either putting out low voltage or not enough amperage.

I found the replacement at this store on eBay http://stores.ebay.com/LCDPAYLESS_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm which also has a site http://lcdpayless.com.  If you can identify the monitor, it's very likely they can match the correct power supply.  Best yet for you--they ship worldwide!

It looks like the video cable is missing pins. That may or may not be a problem, I have seen cables with missing pins before that worked. One thing though, I don't think I have ever seen one missing the lower left pin as that one appears to be, it's usually one or two middle pins.
