Cruncher or doostop?
 (N/A)

My Pastor just gave me an HP Omnibook 4150 F1641WT (PII 366 MHz, 96 MB RAM, 6 GB HDD).  Also floppy interchangeable with CD and wireless DLink adapter.  Battery won't hold a charge, but I'll run it off the brick.  Also pull the wireless and go Ethernet.

It's not much, but is it worth running for lightweight stuff like Pirates and ?????

Spinhenge and SETI are pretty good low resource projects. Depsid might be worth looking into as well. Rosetta has the nice timed tasks but may balk on the memory.

Weather it's worth the electricity and agrivation is your call. It will make a valuable contribution but it will take a long time.

Well can't advise you on the crunching, other than I wouldn't crunch with it myself. I have 128 MB modules that should work in it, and a stack of 10GB hdds if you need anything like that for it. What kind of socket does it have? Probably the MMC2 cpu, now that I think about it..... I'll dig around in the Batcave for some cpu goodness...

did some checking, and it looks like it uses the MMC2 cpu, which was discussed for that model laptop here- http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=36158

What's a "doostop?" Would someone please send me a spelling book?

Whoa! You're way ahead of me on this one.  I brought it home after 9 p.m., IM'd a lady until about 2, and posted this about 2:20.

I still don't have the hang of the pencil eraser, mouse scuff pad, 4(?) mouse buttons, etc.  I managed to get the clock set, regional setting confirmed (would you believe the other side of this city is in the same time zone as I am?).

One of the first things I'd like to do is get a PMCIA card and Cat5 cable to get this dory anchor onto my network; the big box has a DFI NF4 mobo with 2x1-Gbit Ethernet Ports.  So anything 10/100/1000 Mbit would work.

I'm figuring one or two low-stress projects like Pirates would do it, and just let it sit there.

Of course, I have yet to look a gift horse in the mouth, so anybody with an overflowing BatCave is welcome to use my mailbox as a dumpster.
